Barbie is not Sexist

Posted by: Emily on: November 21, 2008

Barbie has become the symbol for made-up, glamorous, “slutty” women and the dolls themselves continue to attract negative attention for being sexist and a bad influence for little girls. But the truth is, it’s not. Little girls don’t care about how big her breasts are, or how skinny she is. They don’t over analyze it like most feminists. And by the time the girls are old enough to realize how skinny and big-breasted Barbies are, they don’t give a shit about dollies anymore. Barbies are fun toys for kids that can help them weld their imagination and give them hours of fun. And feminists who over-analyze Barbies are probably just jealous. It’s not like Barbie is sexist personality wise. She’s had almost every job there is, including coveted jobs like veterinarian or doctor or teacher. Anyone who doesn’t like Barbies because she appears to be sexist is sexist themselves for overlooking her background history. Barbie is not sexist, so just stop over analyzing it and let the little toys be.

The power of suggestion goes a long way. By parents not teaching children to be “picky” about image, then there will be no mental scars later in life.
